About ST Excavation Owner Operator - Sam Tarau

With over 15 years of experience in the earthworks industry, I started at 18 as a labourer on Auckland’s North Shore. From there, I worked my way up through machine operating into leadership and management roles, gaining hands-on experience across all aspects of the job.

Before starting ST Excavation, I managed a small earthworks company specialising in limited access work, leading a team of operators, labourers and truck drivers across multiple projects throughout Auckland. I later moved to Taupō, stepping into civil construction where I managed several multi-million dollar developments, mainly in rural and residential subdivisions.

Over the years, I’ve built strong working relationships with project managers, councils, subcontractors and crews, and understand what it takes to deliver jobs efficiently and to a high standard.

ST Excavation was started as the next step — a chance to apply that experience directly, working closely with clients and delivering reliable, high-quality work. The focus is simple: honest work, fair pricing, and getting the job done right.
